For my Junior summer internship, I worked with Grow Some Good. The employee I worked with who was also my mentor was Tuki Drake. Tuki Drake is an author and garden coordinator at Lokelani Intermediate. I was originally seeking teaching about agriculture and how to maintain crops. This is what I did learn as well as being taught the importance of sustainability in Hawaii. Tuki was a great teacher and was always open to helping me with things I didn’t understand and problems I had outside of my internship. Tuki had a lot of knowledge of agriculture and sustainability and brought his knowledge to the many gardens that he worked at.
The tasks I was assigned to do during my internship varied from garden to garden. Most of the time I was assigned work at Lokelani Intermediate. Some things I did here would include watering the plants. The Lokelani garden is very big so watering could take anywhere from 1 to 1.5 hours. Watering wasn’t a hard task, it was very tedious. Certain plants required a certain amount of water. |
